April 12, 2003:

Voters:

Last week's winner: "Miller! I had a dream last night I had to borrow your leather jacket to impersonate the Virgin Mary." -Joanna

How to vote: list as many of the nominees below as you wish in order from favorite to least favorite. List only the nominees' names, not the entire quotes. Distinguish between two quotes from the same person with parenthetical statements like "Orlin (cabbage)".

And now, the NOMINEES:
"Fat molecules can't run as fast." -Hillary, on the effusion rates of oxygen versus helium
"I'd love to tell you what happened: nothing! Because that's what happens in science." -Bris, on her scientific experiment over project week
"Guilt is so easy, it almost feels natural." -Mr. Davis
"Winchester--breeding ground for the brilliant." -Becca
"The current issue is empty, like my cold, cold, heart." -William, editor of Commonwealth student-run publication The Leek
"They're crazy about ham over there. They have these things called Museos de Jamon, which means 'Museum of Ham.' It's like, if you've ever seen the Home Depot..." -David, on Spain
"It's like head lice, only much worse. There's no shampoo for math." -Julian, on mathematics
"Language is a perpetual process of poison and corruption." -Mr. Davis
"Which do you prefer, art or moose? I notice you're not going on a moose-hunting trip to Canada, eh?" -Mr. Young, defending NYC against Canadian opposition
"It's not abstract enough to mean nothing, like poetry." -Teddy, on using prose a historical source

Voting closes 5:00 pm on Tuesday. Vote early. Email me for a list of Honorable Mentions (it comes highly reccommended this week, especially for Short Story class members).

As per Johan's request, a disclaimer: The population of planet Earth is unequally represented in QOTW.

IF YOU WISH TO BE REMOVED FROM THIS MAILING LIST, TELL ME SO.

-Ben "Orlingian Renaissance" Orlin

QOTW Correction:

I suppose this is what happens when I go nominating quotes without doing my research.

Evidently "bris" is the Jewish ceremony surrounding circumcision. It is not how Bree spells her name.

QOTW apologizes for its mis-spelling of Bree's name in this weeks list of nominees, and hopes we can put this foolish mistake behind us.
